People and culture fit are the #1 factors in choosing what company to work for according to a survey of 15,000 Millennials reported in How Companies Can Attract the Best College Talent by Sanjeev Agrawal. The View From Behind the Workplace Flexibility Curve echoed that sentiment with the admonition that culture includes the ability to work when and where they are most productive.
If Millennials can’t find flexibility in your workplace
they will find it or build it themselves.-
Allow employees to define THEIR most productive process
-
Agree on performance only metrics not face time fraudulence.
-
Make measures timely, transparent and visual
-
Fail fast and provide frequent feedback
-
The threshold for too much positive is 11/1. Reach for it!
-
Commit to conversation not just communication
-
Provide opportunities for authentic expression (good, bad, ugly)
-
If individual errors effect team performance address them with the entire team.
-
Not everything works for everyone. Opportunity is earned through accountability not a privilege of position.
-
Problems with people are most often inconsistencies in process. Praise the people fix the process.
